Dear Readers,

It is a while ago, but in November, I went on a trip to Nice. At the same time, Madelon went to Rome, and it was very difficult to decide on whom to join. I chose for Nice, and Madelon met Blunditta on the bus, so she also had bear-company!

We flew from Rotterdam airport for a change, and this nice little airport was a pleasant experience. While travelling bear-fare it is not usual to have your own seat, but once again, I was very lucky! After arrival, we took the bus from the airport to Nice, and found our hotel. Cathalijn had to rush off for her conference, so the first afternoon I relaxed from the trip in our hotel room. The second and third morning, we had breakfast in a local café close to the conference center, where I secretly attended some very interesting lectures. Most of the second morning was free though, so we enjoyed a long stroll through Nice and along the promenade des Anglais, a lovely boulevard next to the truly blue ocean. As the weather was fantastic, we worked on our tan! The next afternoon we walked all the way along the boulevard to the Asian art museum. The museum itself was lovely, but the area around it was also very pleasant…

Over the next two days, I was dragged to another 6 musea (MAMAC, Chagall, Matisse, beaux-arts, and one alongside the boulevard that I cannot remember the name of) where I saw some magnificent art works, and in between, it was lovely to be outside and enjoy the marvelous weather, very much unlike what we left behind in Holland.
Nice has a very nice old city centre, and a lovely food and flower market where we could have spent hours. On the fourth morning we had breakfast in a little café with a view on the market, from where we continued for a stroll through the lovely parc du chateau uphill, with fantastic views on the harbour with impressive boats. On the last day, we visited the largest Russian cathedral, outside Russia. Unfortunately, it was slightly less nice over the last two days, and it even started raining very badly just before we took the bus to the airport. I have not yet before experienced such rain, it went right through our umbrella! The flight home was OK in spite of all the rain, and on Rotterdam airport, we hopped in the car and drove straight home, a bit tired, but happy to have seen this lovely city.

If you’d enjoy seeing what it is like, you can see all the pictures on Picasa:

My next trip will be to Hong Kong, I’m excited!
Big bear hug,
Blund.
